When you want to assign permissions to a user about the Calendar and you want to make sure that you assigned the proper ones.   

Steps: Menu > Security > Setup > School/board setup > Calendar 

Here is the definition for each of them: 

Display calendar: able to see the calendar in Setup > School > Calendar 

Modify calendar: able to modify the calendar in Setup > School > Calendar 

MODIFY CALENDAR EVENTS ONLY: if selected, able to modify only events and will not allow to modify the other functions listed 

Modify other school calendars: able to modify the calendar of other schools in Setup > School > Calendar 

Modify past days: able to modify past days for Day cycle and Day type in calendar in Setup > School > Calendar
