OVERVIEW 

In Exams > Assign exams by group 


This process sets the exam info in the courses table without having to go into each course to set the variables

 

HOW TO DEFINE 

 

In Filter :

Assign to. School can select either by Course code pattern or Department.   


  1. Course code pattern selection. 

  2. Enter the pattern of the courses which are to be modified. The selection of the group of courses is done through pattern matching and using an asterisk (*) to represent any character in that position. Here are some examples of pattern matching:

    M indicates all courses which start with 'M'
    ***3 indicates all courses with '3' in the 4th position of the course code
    ENG indicates all courses which start with 'ENG'
    T**2 indicates all courses which start with 'T' and have '2' in the 4th position

  3. Department. If Department is selected, in the dropdown menu it will show all the course categories E.g Business Studies, Co-op, English, etc. 


  1. Grade start /end with. It will require to select which grades will be involved in the exam schedule. 




Assignment 

This sets the information in the courses table >exam schedule 


  1. Examination. No, Yes, Unchanged - this sets the checkbox in the courses table 

    Yes checks the box, No unchecks it if it was selected and unchanged leaves it to what it was set to



  1. Day. 

  2. If the courses are to have their examinations scheduled on the same day, enter the day of the exam. If the examinations do not need to be held on a specific day, select Unassigned. If the day is Unassigned', the automatic placement feature will assign the examination on the day which will produce the fewest conflicts. 

  1. Fixed day.  No, Yes, Unchanged 


  1. Period. 

  1. If the courses are to have their examinations scheduled into the same period, do not check the select the period from the list.
    If the examinations do not need to be held in a specific period, select Unassigned. If the day is Unassigned, the automatic placement feature will assign the examination in the period that will produce the fewest conflicts.


  2. Fixed period. 
    When you enter the period, the courses may be "fixed" into the specified period. By fixing courses in a specific period, the fixed period may not be changed by the computer when the automatic placement feature schedules the courses into examination periods. If the period is not fixed and the courses are considered in the automatic placement feature, the computer has the flexibility to change the period if it will reduce the number of conflicts.
